Caution Needed When Using Biodiesel Fuel in Thermo King Engines
Biodiesel has grown in popularity for use in tractors because of its competitive price and low environmental impact. However, when using biodiesel in your Yanmar engine (Thermo King engine that operates both reefer and TriPac heaters) you need to be sure you're using
the right type or significant damage can occur. Biodiesel is available in a range of blends. Yanmar approves ONLY the use of biodiesel blends up to B5 (5% biodiesel), as long as the biodiesel portion of the fuel blend meets ASTM D6751-02 and oil grade CI-4 or higher is used. Using a biodiesel blend with a higher ratio will at the minimum require more frequent oil changes and injector service
intervals. At its worst, using the wrong type of biodiesel can destroy your engine and require a complete rebuild or even replacement. If you choose to use biodiesel fuel in your Yanmar engine be aware that biodiesel requires special handling to meet US fuel specifications. Since biodiesel fuel begins to degrade within 2 months from production and is highly susceptible to

What's My Engine's Model Year?
Owners of TRUs powered by Tier I diesel engines may find that the engine emissions year label does not match the TRU manufacturing year. Model year information is needed to apply for an ARB Identification Number (IDN). (See Thermo King Service Bulletin TT505 for more details)

You're Compliant, But Are You Registered?
ARB advises that within 30 days after compliance with the in use performance standards, compliance information must be entered into ARBER for each California based unit so that an IDN can be issued. Operator Reports for California terminals where TRUs
operate must also be updated to add new IDNs. IDNs must be affixed to both sides of the TRU housing (see TRU Advisory 08 10 R1) within 30 days of receipt.
Thermo King has provided a compliance assistance document to help TRU owners find the Thermo King TRU unit and engine labels and the information on those labels that is needed to apply for an ARB Identification Number.
